Filling Your Spirit With Song

Music and singing are integral parts of our Unitarian Universalist worship services. Whether it’s classical, rock, folk, or a cappella, music shifts the energy of worship and moves it into our bodies. This Sunday we’ll connect to Spirit, and to one another, through hymn singing, chanting, Taize and more. Worship leaders this week are Sharon Arpoika and Bernadette Burns.

Cultivating Abundance

It’s so easy to focus on what we lack. In fact, our brains are hardwired this way! How can we resist our negativity bias and cultivate appreciation for the abundance in our lives? Worship Leaders this week are Rev. Darcy, Avonelle Tomlinson, and Haruko DeArth.

Rhythm and Vitality

Ancient Christian theologian St. Augustine wrote about the holy as rhythm, always available for us to tune in.  Rev. Darcy shares some reflections based on her recent dance-intensive week in Havana, Cuba and explores what rhythms are already pulsing through us.  Worship Leaders this week are Rev. Darcy Baxter and John Patton.

Claiming the Gift of Newness

With time for good grieving and sifting, a new time in our lives can be a gift welcomed and claimed. Like new growth on a mature rose bush, fresh green or new blossoms can surprise us and continue to spur fresh energy and life. Worship leaders this week are Rev. Holding On and Letting Go

Whenever there is a moving from one place to another, some process of sorting and sifting occurs. Worship leaders this week … Continue reading Holding On and Letting Go

Noticing and Opening

As we intentionally notice and gently hold changes going on in and around us, we are able to open to both the grief and possibility that are a part of that. A balance of grief and hope can then help us to begin moving forward. Worship leaders this week are Rev. Erin Matteson, and Avonelle … Continue reading Noticing and Opening

What’s Up Doc?

The Chinese curse – May you live in interesting times – is coming up daisies. Each day the occupant of the White House proves himself to be a trickster, and he is not alone in this endeavor. Rev. Earl W Koteen, Environmental Justice Minister, UU Ministry for Earth, will preach on the role of the tricksters and how we might turn the light of truth upon them. Worship leaders this week are Rev. Earl Koteen, Sharon Arpoika, April Guttierrez, Matthew Mason, and Karen Odell.

Poetry is Not A Luxury

Modesto Poet Laureate Gillian Wegener will share some of her poetry, affirming Audre Lorde’s wisdom that, “poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence.” Worship Leaders this week are Todd Whiteley, Gillian Wegener, and Sydney Gorham.

Strength in Numbers

The Golden State Warriors have dazzled the country with their beautiful, truly team based game style. How can we, too, develop strength in numbers? Worship Leaders this week are Rev. Darcy and Sharon Arpoika.

Bend the Arc

Paraphrasing UU minister Rev. Theodore Parker, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King famously said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” We welcome two community organizers, Homero Meija and Na’ama Firestone, into our pulpit to witness their stories and hear an invitation to lend our efforts toward bending that … Continue reading Bend the Arc
