Holding On and Letting Go

Whenever there is a moving from one place to another, some process of sorting and sifting occurs. The more intentional we can make it, the more we may be able to discern what is most important to travel with us to a new place, and what needs to be left behind. Worship leaders this week … Continue reading Holding On and Letting Go

Noticing and Opening

As we intentionally notice and gently hold changes going on in and around us, we are able to open to both the grief and possibility that are a part of that. A balance of grief and hope can then help us to begin moving forward. Worship leaders this week are Rev. Erin Matteson, and Avonelle … Continue reading Noticing and Opening

What’s Up Doc?

The Chinese curse – May you live in interesting times – is coming up daisies. Each day the occupant of the White House proves himself to be a trickster, and he is not alone in this endeavor. Rev. Earl W Koteen, Environmental Justice Minister, UU Ministry for Earth, will preach on the role of the tricksters and how we might turn the light of truth upon them. Worship leaders this week are Rev. Earl Koteen, Sharon Arpoika, April Guttierrez, Matthew Mason, and Karen Odell.

Poetry is Not A Luxury

Modesto Poet Laureate Gillian Wegener will share some of her poetry, affirming Audre Lorde’s wisdom that, “poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence.” Worship Leaders this week are Todd Whiteley, Gillian Wegener, and Sydney Gorham.

Strength in Numbers

The Golden State Warriors have dazzled the country with their beautiful, truly team based game style. How can we, too, develop strength in numbers? Worship Leaders this week are Rev. Darcy and Sharon Arpoika.

Bend the Arc

Paraphrasing UU minister Rev. Theodore Parker, the Rev. Jazz Sunday

We welcome the New Horizons Jazz Band for a special music Sunday, inviting their music to stir, provoke, and move us in ways that simple words cannot. Worship leaders this week are Rev. Darcy and Matthew Mason.

Spiritual Growth as a Practical Matter

Spirituality is as practical and necessary as hard-nosed science. It is not, as some critics put it, “just another lens” for seeing the world around us; it’s THE WAY we see it. To continue to refine our “lens” is to grow spiritually. Faith communities are those sacred spaces where we find the tools we need for the refining process. Let’s explore what can help… and what probably won’t. Worship Leaders this week are Matthew Mason, guest speaker Mark Haskett, and Sydney Gorham.

The Time in Between

Beginnings and endings tend to be clear cut. Sure, they can be hard and even complex, but the expectations they provide are clear—you start and stop. But what about the time in between? How do you keep yourself motivated when the beginning is behind you and the end is not yet in sight? In this sermon we will explore the time in between and examine ways to cultivate motivation and excitement in these liminal spaces. Worship leaders this week are Zackrie Vinczen, Sharon Arpoika, and Sabine Klein.
