Letters of Encouragement and Challenge

Come explore how and why letters matter for our lives, and receive some specifically to your fellowship in this new year from around the community and country. Rev. Matteson, Todd Whiteley and Sabine Klein are worship leaders this week.

Hearing Our Call and Claiming Our Place

“The Beloved Community” is a term first coined by philosopher-theologian, Josiah Royce. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. then played a key role in popularizing the term and investing it with a deeper meaning, which has captured the imagination of people and communities all over the world. As we prepare to celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday tomorrow, let’s explore his faith and this worthy goal–why it matters to various faith traditions, and how it can connect to our individual and communal lives in practical ways. Rev. Matteson, Brian Wise, and Sabine Klein are this Sunday’s worship leaders.

Rising from the Ashes

Last week many of us started a “good fire” and used the power of ritual to “burn off” and “let go” of some things from the last year. What are some of the things to be sure to hold on to? For good health and faith in our own lives, our country and the world let’s name, across traditions, what needs to be kept or helped to always rise from any ashes? With our worship theme this month being “Building the Beloved Community – Welcome and Including”, how are such values specifically connected into that vision and work? Leading worship this week are, Rev. Matteson, Sharon Arpoika and Sue Cotter.

Let Go, Begin Again

Join us as we burn off (with flash paper and FIRE!) the old year and let it all go. What is something about this year that you’re wanting to let go of? We will also mindfully ponder the question, “What’s next?” Avonelle Tomlinson, Matthew Mason and Haruko DeArth are this Sunday’s worship leaders.

Pomegranate and Persimmon Communion
